Imphal, Oct 27: Manipur’s Phamdom Ranibala Devi has set a new record in the 55 kg women’s weightlifting category at the 37th National Games in Goa.
She broke Mirabai Chanu’s record of 86 kg in the snatch and lifted 106 kg in the clean and jerk and 196 kg in total to win the gold medal.
The 37th National Games started in Goa on October 25 and will continue till November 9.
This year, around 560 participants from Manipur are taking part in the ongoing 37th National Games in Goa, including 406 players (180 men and 226 women), 76 coaches, 56 team managers, and 22 MOA officials, among others. Manipur athletes are competing in 26 of the 48 disciplines.
In 2022, Manipur finished ninth with 50 medals, including 20 gold, 10 silver, and 20 bronze in 21 different sports.
