Dibrugarh, May 28: In a big development, Margherita police raided the house of coal businessman Ron Lungsang and recovered Rs 2 crore 99 lakhs from his residence.
Police failed to arrest Ron Lungsang because he fled from the scene.
After getting a tip off regarding his involvement in illegal coal business, a police team from Margherita police station launched an operation and recovered Rs 2 crore 99 lakh from the residence of Ron Lungsang.
The businessman is suspected to be involved in the death of three coal workers who were buried alive in the illegal coal mine of Lidu Tikok West Mining.
Sources said Ron Lungsang has been operating many rat-hole mines in the Patkai hills and engaged poor labourers to work in the illegal coal mines.
Meanwhile, police have launched a massive manhunt to nab Ron Lungsang.
On Sunday, three coal miners identified as Dawa Sherpa, a native of Nepal and two workers from Meghalaya, John and Fenaal were trapped inside the rat hole mine and lost their lives.
The incident took place at around 12.30am when the rat hole mine caved in due to a sudden landslide. It is suspected that the three coal miners are already dead buried under the rubble.
