Silchar, May 18: A massive fire broke out this afternoon at a computer training institute in Silchar, causing panic in the congested area of Shillongpatti. The fire engulfed four storeyed building, trapping several students inside.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted while classes were in session, leaving many students trapped. Some of the students managed to break the grills and climbed down the building using water pipes to escape the blaze. Firefighters arrived promptly and rescued the remaining students.
Several fire tenders have been working for hours to control the flames. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, though the intial report suggest short circuit. The firefighters are working to douse the fire.
