Shillong, Mar 6: In a tragic incident, two houses in Dawki were completely gutted by fire on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at around 10 PM on Saturday night in the rented house of one Blesting Khongtyngkut of Upper Bakur where two tenants stay, namely, Edmund Sumer and Bilash Roy.

The fire was first noticed by the neighbours from the house of Edmund Sumer. They immediately rang up the F&ES crew of Dawki, Amlarem and BSF for help. While the fire and emergency department crew and BSF personnel got into action, the general public also came forward to help douse the fire and helped stop the fire from spreading to nearby houses and shops.

There was no loss of lives; however, property loss to the tune of approximately Rs. 20.5 lakh has been reported.

Till the filing of this report, the cause of fire could not be ascertained as the house had been totally gutted.
