Tura, April 27: On Saturday afternoon, the Mothers Union Tura held a program to felicitate MasterChef Nambie Marak for her laudable achievement alongside a sizzling cooking competition, Culinary Master Challenge – 2024, West Garo Hills, at Green Haven, Walbakgre, Tura.

Sume G B Sangma, Secretary of Mothers Union in the welcome address spoke laurels of Nambie’s journey in the (MasterChef) competition and the pride it gave to see the cultural cuisine from Garo Hills being represented on the national front and also prayed for her future success.

A musical performance by the students of Mothers Union School Tura, Dr. Viola Sonachi B Sangma, Balsa B Sangma and Biana W Momin, Advisors of Mothers Union Tura felicitated Nambie Jessica Marak with a plaque commemorating her success.

Nambie spoke about her time in the MasterChef kitchen, the valuable learning she took away and the celebrity chefs she met specifically mentioning her interaction with Marco Pierre White and the encouraging advice he gave her that helped her push forward. She gave insight on her journey to such fame and hoped to inspire other from the Garo Hills region.

After the felicitation program, a gastronomic experience unfolded with the Culinary Master Challenge to adjudge the best chef among the 20 participants who competed against each other for the prize. Along with Nambie, Binny K Marak and Lepmoni Ch Sangma also judged the dishes put forth by the participants.

The contestants prepared their dishes beforehand and only work on the plating at the venue within 15 minutes during which the judges made rounds at each station interacting with the contestants.

Points were allocated based on aesthetic, plating technique, taste, texture, flavour combination, local ingredients and complexity of the dish. The prize money awarded were ₹30,000 for the winner, ₹20,000 for the 1st runners up and ₹10, 000 for the 2nd runner up.

The homecooks made rounds at the judges table with their delicious plates, explained it’s significance and eagerly awaited for the results.

Fornia K Sangma was deemed the winner in this competition, while Silse M Sangma and Mune Neteida B Sangma were the 1st and 2nd runner up respectively.
