Maths paper leak triggers cancellation of Assam HS first-year Exams; 15 private schools lose affiliation

Must read

Guwahati, March 22: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has cancelled the remaining subjects of the Higher Secondary (HS) First Year Examination 2025 following a major question paper leak in the Mathematics subject.

The examination, originally scheduled from March 24 to March 29, has been scrapped amid concerns over the security of other question papers.

The leak reportedly occurred when sealed packets of the Mathematics paper, meant for the second session on March 21, were opened in some institutions on March 20. Subsequent investigations found multiple instances of breaches, leading the Board to suspect the possibility of leaks in other subjects as well.

In response, ASSEB has suspended the affiliation of 15 private schools across 10 districts for violating examination protocols. Additionally, the state government has announced disciplinary action against three provincialised schools involved in the misconduct. FIRs are being filed against the institutions, and as a strict punitive measure, the schools in question have been barred from admitting Class XI students for the academic year 2025–26.

A Board meeting scheduled for March 24 will determine further action regarding the examination process and potential rescheduling.

Meanwhile, education authorities have assured that strict measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
