Mawlai Dorbar joins hand with Manbha Foundation to combat drug abuse

Shillong, Nov 6: Taking a step towards the pressing need to address the rising cases of drug abuse in their community, the Mawlai Town Dorbar (MTD) has joined hands with the Manbha Foundation to provide a lifeline to those battling substance dependency.

The aim is to help those trying to overcome their substance abuse addiction through a comprehensive De-addiction and Rehabilitation Programme at the Mawlai Mawkynroh Rehab Centre.

The primary goal of this community-driven endeavor is to thoroughly comprehend the extent of drug abuse within the larger Mawlai area and its pervasive impact on society. Recognizing that drug abuse is not solely a family issue but demands collective intervention, the initiative aims to amplify awareness about available treatment avenues. Moreover, it serves as a platform for acknowledging this emerging societal challenge, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.

Since its launch, the program has garnered significant interest from active drug users seeking de-addiction treatment. Currently, 21 individuals are enrolled in the program, facilitated by the collaborative efforts of Mawlai Town Dorbar and the Manbha Foundation.

The program’s inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of notable figures, including Dr. Rika Lamar from the Manbha Foundation, SP (City) of East Khasi Hills Vivek Syiem, NEHU’s Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla, and Teibor Pathaw, the MDC of Mawlai Constituency. They were joined by local leaders and family members of those participating in the program.
