SHILLONG, MAY 20: The Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Union (MCCEU) has sought the intervention of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for speedy and normal running of the cement plant and to implement schemes to alleviated sufferings of the employees.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting, MCCEU president Shanlang Diengdoh said that the chief minister has assured to examine the demands and get back to the union within a few days.
“During the meeting, we have reiterated the need for the government to expeditiously implement all our demands to alleviate the suffering of the employees of MCCL both under serivce and those who had retired from service,” he said.
He informed the demands include normal salary and pending dues to be paid till plant resume normal operation, speedy and normal running of the plant with upgradation and VRS/golden handshake scheme.
The demand also came at a time when the state government has decided to take a call on whether to close down the cement plant within six months time.
According to Diengdoh, they are yet to discuss the matter but only have reiterated that their demands should be considered.
Diengdoh said that the delegation had also requested the state government to increase the interim financial assistance to ease the financial pressure and burden on the employees and their families.
In regards to the demand for VRS and golden handshake scheme, he said that the scheme to be implemented should be minimum 10 years or above.
He said that the scheme should be accomodating to even employees whose service period is very short by introducing special scheme for them, or if they are not willing to opt they should be transfered to other government department.
The scheme offer after tabulation from the management or government can be cancelled by employees, if their expectations or the financial offer is not up to the mark.
The scheme so introduced should be in one time payment mode. And all dues have to be clear before the cut off date, he added.
