Shillong, June 28: Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) checking of examination papers have come under the scanner after re-evaluation of results proved significant deviation from the initial results declared.
This issue has come to the fore after some of the students sought re-evaluation of their results. A case in point is Arghadeep Ghosh, a student of Don Bosco College (Higher Secondary), Tura.
Ghosh had secured the second position in his class X Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams. He was confident of featuring in the top ten list in his class XII Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) exams (science stream.) However, the result was a disappointment for him as he didn’t secure any rank.
Seeking re-evaluation it was found that Ghosh was erroneously deprived of 7 marks. With those additional marks, he was propelled to the 9th position. Earlier, in the results declared by MBoSE in the science stream, none of the students from Garo Hills region featured in the state’s “top ten” list.
Apart from Ghosh, Aniket Pattanayak of Laban Bengalee Boys Higher Secondary School, Shillong, was elevated to the 3rd rank after re-evaluation.
Balarisuk Myria of St. Edmund’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, and Debdeep Chanda of Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong, jointly secured the 9th position alongside Arghadeep Ghosh, all after re-evaluation.
Expressing happiness at the turn of events, Principal of Don Bosco College (Higher Secondary section), Fr. Jogesh B. Sangma said: “I am happy we secured the 9th position.”
He said that not just Arghadeep, but other students as well saw marked improvement of their results after re-evaluation.
“Some students who initially received second division marks moved to first division, and some who had failed were subsequently declared passed after re-evaluation,” Fr. Sangma pointed out.
He recalled a similar instance in 2023 when a commerce student from Don Bosco College did not initially secure a rank but secured a position in the top ten list, post re-evaluation.
Requesting MBOSE to check the examination papers properly before declaring the results, Fr. Sangma said: “These results have a significant impact on students and if such re-evaluation is necessary to get the correct result then it’s very demotivating for them.”
Encouraging students to go for re-evaluation if they have doubts about their results, Fr. Sangma said, “If you have doubts about your results, go ahead and re-evaluate because it’s important to get a fair and accurate assessment of your academic journey.”
