MCA holds 18th Apex Council Meeting in Tura, makes bid to host U-23 BCCI Tournament

Tura, Aug 28: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) is all set to host the North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC), which comprises of six northeastern states, and the Senior Women’s Inter State Tournament, which will be held in Ri Bhoi district.

This was informed by MCA president Nababrata Bhattacharjee after the 18th Apex Council Meeting held at Hotel Polo Orchid, located in Nazing Bazaar in the Araimile area of Tura in West Garo Hills district on Tuesday.

The meeting, which was attended by the leaders of MCA along with representatives from the Tura District Cricket Association (TDCA), discussed key agendas including the finalization of coaches and support staff, team training plans, tender processes, and selection protocols for the upcoming cricket season.

The association is also making a bid to host the U-23 BCCI Tournament. The matches are planned to be held at the Alotgre cricket ground; a move aimed at boosting cricket development in the region.

MCA President, Nababrata Bhattacharjee, informed Hub News that Abey Kuruvilla, the General Manager of the BCCI, is scheduled to inspect the ground and facilities available in and around Tura on Wednesday (August 28). BCCI’s decision to approve hosting the U-23 tournament in Tura will be based on the outcome of this crucial inspection.

“We are looking forward that the approval is given and this opportunity will give a tremendous boost to entire Garo Hills zone in general and particularly for Meghalaya cricket,” he expressed.

Both the MCA and TDCA have expressed confidence in their preparations and arrangements for the upcoming events.

The Apex Council, established in 2018 following the adoption of a new constitution based on the recommendations of former Justice R. M. Lodha, continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cricket in Meghalaya.
