GUWAHATI, Nov 26: Medhavi Skills University (MSU) and the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC), operating under North Eastern Council (NEC) have joined hands to enhance the competitiveness of the bamboo industry, and significantly contribute to the sustainable development of Northeast India
The collaboration aims to foster bamboo-based startups, drive innovation, and create sustainable economic opportunities for the region’s youth. The partnership seeks to address the increasing demand for skilled workers in bamboo manufacturing and allied industries.
This initiative combines MSU’s expertise in industry-oriented skill-based degree and diploma programs with NECBDC’s specialized focus on cane and bamboo development. Together, they will establish incubation centers to nurture bamboo-based startups, offering critical infrastructure, mentorship, and funding support to entrepreneurs in the sector.
In addition, the collaboration will prioritize the creation of Research & Development (R&D) setups to develop scalable bamboo solutions, improve sustainable harvesting practices, and promote bamboo as a vital resource for sustainable growth.
As part of this partnership, Centers of Excellence will be established to provide specialized training in bamboo crafts, technology, and value-added products. These centers will function as hubs for capacity building, offering training and upskilling programs tailored to the region’s unique economic and ecological landscape.
Mr. Kuldip Sarma, Co-Founder and Pro-Chancellor of Medhavi Skills University, highlighted the partnership’s focus on integrating vocational training with formal education. “This collaboration aims to empower local communities by providing industry-relevant certifications and fostering sustainable economic growth in the Northeast,” Sarma said.
Echoing this vision, Mr. M.C. Omi Niingshen, Managing Director of NECBDC, remarked, “Our joint efforts will unlock the immense potential of the region’s natural resources, creating a sustainable pathway for economic empowerment and technological innovation in the cane and bamboo sector.”
