MeECL engineers donate Rs 1 lakh to girl who lost both arms due to electrocution by unfenced transformer

Shillong, Aug 5: The Association of Power Engineers (AOPE) of the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) on Friday donated Rs 1 lakh as financial assistance to the child victim who lost both hands in an electrocution incident at Mawkohphet in South West Khasi Hills.

It may be mentioned that on April 21, one Ibapynhun Iawphniaw, a nursery student, had to get both of her arms amputated after getting electrocuted by a power transformer near her school at Mawkohphet.

Notably, after the incident, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), South West Khasi Hills District Unit, had condemned this gruesome case of negligence on the part of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) and also demanded the Power Distribution Corporation Ltd to pay lifetime compensation to the little girl.
