A pivotal milestone in this development was the signing of three Escrow agreements involving the Controller of Coal, Government of India, and project proponents for mining operations in key locations:
Pyndengshalang, West Khasi Hills
Saryngkham, East Jaintia Hills
Lumiakhi-Wahsarang, East Jaintia Hills
These agreements are expected to pave the way for the commencement of mining activities, adhering to strict environmental guidelines and sustainable practices.
CM Sangma further revealed that in addition to these three projects, 12 more applications are nearing final approval. The state government, alongside the Department of Mining and Geology, is working to fast-track these processes.

โThis is a significant stride for Meghalayaโs progress,โ Sangma remarked, emphasizing the governmentโs commitment to responsible resource management and economic growth.
The revival of the mining sector is projected to stimulate employment, bolster state revenue, and support infrastructure development in mining-affected regions. This move comes after years of regulatory hurdles and environmental concerns that had stalled mining operations in the state.
By introducing scientific coal mining, Meghalaya seeks to position itself as a model for resource-rich states striving for sustainable and legally compliant mining practices.
