Shillong, July 19: Meghalaya has finally approved the Meghalaya Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy, 2021 on Monday. Mentionably, Meghalaya is one of three states in the country that did not have a PPP policy.

Addressing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the policy was absolutely necessary to facilitate more private investment in the state.

He shared that the PPP policy of Meghalaya mostly deals with large infrastructural projects and is unique because it has the element of Community Public Private Partnership (CPPP) policy.

On the CPPP, he said the concept is not entirely new. “It is there in some parts of the world, may be in some of the states in the country also but we will be one of the few states to have this CPPP policy aspect,” he said.

Explaining the CPPP concept, he said, “The idea is very simple that even at the community level, if the community feels that they want to work with private parties to have investment be it in tourism, agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, then they can go for those projects.”

He added that aspects of the Land Transfer Act will also be applicable to the PPP policy.

“Therefore, ownership and other aspects of land, protection to local people – all have been taken into consideration,” he added.

Pinemount and Public schools under the jurisdiction of DSEL

The state government on Monday has decided to bring the Pinemount and Public schools under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy (DSEL).

On the need to bring Pinemount and Public schools under DSEL, Chief Minister said the Pinemount and Public schools have been historically under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (DHTE) whereas in Meghalaya all the schools up to class XII are under the DSEL.
