Shillong, Sept 30: Meghalaya Football icon and son of late Syntar Klas Sunn, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, has announced that he will be contesting the bye-election from the Mawphlang constituency on UDP ticket. He made this announcement on Thursday.Eugeneson’s father, (L) Syntar Klas Sunn, was the sitting Independent MLA from the Mawphlang constituency who died due to COVID-19 infection on September 10, 2021. Although he did not join UDP officially, he was associated with UDP.
On September 28, Eugeneson had been approached by the people of Mawphlang to contest from the constituency and succeed his father.Eugeneson is the older of Sunn’s two sons. He has two elder sisters and one younger brother.
Election Commission of India on September 28, 2021 announced bye-elections to three Assembly seats, namely, Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala, which fell vacant on account to their sitting legislators passing away. David A Nongrum represented Mawryngkneng constituency, SK Sunn represented Mawphlang constituency and Dr Azad Zaman represented Rajabala constituency.
The voting for the three assembly seats is scheduled on October 30 and counting on November 2, 2021.
