Shillong, Jan 31: Former Cabinet Minister and three-time MLA from Mylliem constituency, Pynshai Manik Syiem, filed his nomination for the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly polls infront of the Returning Officer (RO) at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Shillong on Tuesday.
The former MLA was accompanied by former MDC and EM of KHADC, Teilinia Thangkhiew, who is also the first born daughter of Syiem.
Syiem will be contesting as an independent candidate who proposed to contest from the symbol of a Diamond. He will go against NPP candidate and former Cabinet Minister Hamletson Dohling and present MDC of the Congress, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh.
Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination papers, Syiem said that he is fully confident. On him contesting against the sitting MDC and MLA, he said that it is the mandate of the people of Mylliem to judge his past performance that matters, and as long as people vote consciously, they will choose the right candidate.
It may be mentioned that Syiem, after losing the 2013 election to Congress’ RV Lyngdoh, went missing from the Mylliem political scenario and contested from Mawphlang, where he was humbly secured third position with 3940 votes.
When asked why people should vote for him after missing for a very long period from the political scenario of Mylliem, Syiem replied that people should judge on his experience and his past performance and the people of Mylliem should trust him for the kind of work he has done in the constituency.
“…it is mandate of the people that matters, and as long as people vote consciously, they will choose the right candidate,” he maintained.
