Meghalaya awaits sanction of funds by Centre for Shillong-Western Bypass construction

Must read

Shillong, Aug 11: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said the state government is waiting for the Centre to sanction the funds for construction of the Shillong-Western Bypass.

“Ultimately the alignment has been finalized and DPR is also more or less finalized and now we are waiting for the Centre to sanction the funds,” Tynsong told reporters.

Shillong-Western Bypass would start from Umiam via Mawmih upto Baniun within Seventh Mile at Upper Shillong.

Tynsong also informed that the land acquisition proceedings have also just started in the two districts of Ri Bhoi and East Khasi Hills.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister had admitted that the construction of the Shillong-Western Bypass would to a great extent help lessen the burden on the Umiam bridge. “Because people coming from the western side instead of coming to Shillong, they will go straight that side so they don’t have to come via Umiam bridge – so that will reduce the pressure on the bridge,” he had said.
