Shillong, Feb 3: Meghalaya state BJP felicitated noted Khasi folk musician Silbi Passah and Minister AL Hek on Saturday, for bringing honour to the state through their recent awards.
Silbi Passah was recently bestowed with the prestigious Padma Shri Award, while Minister AL Hek was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
The event was attended by Meghalaya BJP president Rikman G Momin and the family members of both awardees.
Expressing her gratitude, Passah thanked her students for embracing and following her teachings. She emphasised the importance of indigenous people in the state cherishing and respecting their language.
Passah, a dedicated teacher, is renowned for imparting Khasi folk music education and has composed several pieces of Khasi music.
In addition to music, she also teaches her students how to compose and play Khasi instruments for Hindi songs.
