Shillong, Feb 14: The State BJP has lodged an FIR at Sardar Police Station, Shillong, against a ‘Fake Letter’ in circulation which states that the BJP Meghalaya is against the celebration of Valentine’s Day.
The fake letter, which has the signature of Arun Singh, the National Secretary, states, “Valentine’s Day Celebrations on the 14th of February is against Indian Culture. We support the stance taken by Bajrang Dal on this. We strongly advise unmarried couples not to go out together. If found together necessary actions will be taken by our party workers. When BJP forms the government we promise to eliminate western culture from Meghalaya.”
BJP State President Ernest Mawrie, after lodging the complaint at Sardar PS, said there are few errors that can verify the authenticity of the letter. “The address written in the letter is wrong, our head office is not in Khyndailad but in Bivar Road, the Email ID given in the letter is totally wrong,” he said.
Mawrie further said this is a “Political Issue”.
Mawrie also assured that the BJP Meghalaya is not against the celebration of Valentine’s Day or any western culture as he wished everyone a “Happy Valentine’s Day from the Party side”.
It may be mentioned, the Bajrang Dal goons in all parts of the country are opposing any western culture and play ‘moral police’ by beating up couples in Ahmedabad, Agra, Assam and many other parts of the states. The rise of strength of the BJP in any state has given more power to these goons.
Recently, February 14 has been rebrand as “Cow Hug Day” by the Animal Welfare Board of India. But three days before the Valentine’s Day, the Board withdrew its circular.
