Shillong, Dec 1: A delegation of State BJP leaders led by cabinet minister AL Hek visited and met the agitating post graduate (PG) students of North East India of Ayurveda & Homeopathy (NEIAH) on Sunday.
Prior to meeting them, the delegation met the officials of the institute who briefed on the status of their various grievances paramount of which is the increase in stipend & affiliation of the PG course with NEHU.
“Based on the status given by the officials it was expected that their main grievances will be attended to within 8/10 days,” BJP chief spokesperson M Kharkrang said in a statement.
“The delegation then met the agitating PG students and the undergraduate students who were giving support to them. They gave all the details of their grievances & due to the non response of the faculty they were compelled to take the extreme step of resorting to hunger strike. However the BJP delegation earnestly requested them to temporarily suspend their hunger strike especially after one of them has been shifted to hospital,” he said.
Kharkrang said that they were assured that the state BJP will take up the matter with Central Government.
