Meghalaya bye-elections results: NPP’s Pyniaid Syiem nears the winning mark in Mawryngkneng after Round 8; UDP’s Eugeneson takes massive lead in Mawphlang after Round 6

Shillong, Nov 2: The National People’s Party (NPP) maintained its lead in the Mawryngkneng constituency with its candidate Pyniaid Syiem ahead of its nearest contender by 1,305 votes at the end of the Round 8 counting.

Syiem has secured 13,092 votes while his near rival Highlander Kharmalki of Congress has secured 11,787 votes, although the later has closed in on the margin.

After the 4th round, NPP’s Pyniaid Syiem had secured 7,124 votes with Highlander Kharmalki had secured 5,589, trailing the NPP with over 1500 votes.

Mentionably, Mawryngkneng Assembly constituency has about 36,751 voters.

The NPP is quite ahead at this point and is most likely to win the election with just one more round to go.

Interestingly, the NOTA option (None of the Above) has so far been used 200 times, which is more than the votes of independent candidate Arbiangkam Kharsohmat who has secured 194 votes.

Eugeneson takes massive lead in Mawplang

For the Mawphlang seat, UDP’s Eugeneson Lyngdoh has taken a massive lead of 3,275 votes at the end of counting for Round 6.

Lyngdoh has secured 10,915 votes while his nearest rival Congress’ Kennedy Khyriem has secured 7,640 votes.

NPP’s Lamphrang Blah was at 3rd spot with 3,933 votes.

Mawphlang constituency has 33,194 voters, of which about 76.9% voted on October 30.
