Shillong, Jan 15: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the framing of state rules to regulate the payment of analysis fees for cases examined by the Directorate of Forensic Science under the Home Department. The move is aimed at enhancing the management of forensic analysis requests and ensuring a smooth workflow.
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated, “An important decision taken today was the framing of state rules to regulate the payment of analysis fees for examining various cases, exhibits, and articles in the Directorate of Forensic Science under the Home Department.”
The Chief Minister explained that the initiative was necessitated by the growing demand for the services of Meghalaya’s state-of-the-art forensic laboratory. Requests have been pouring in from various government and private agencies, as well as from other states. However, the absence of a proper classification and fee structure created inefficiencies.
Under the new rules, agencies are classified into four categories:
Class A: Government agencies under Meghalaya’s administration.
Class B: Agencies within Meghalaya but outside state administration.
Class C: Agencies outside Meghalaya’s territorial jurisdiction.
Class D: Private agencies.
“This classification and structured fee system will improve the operational efficiency of the Directorate of Forensic Science, ensuring better service delivery,” the Chief Minister added.
