SHILLONG, JUNE 4: Meghalaya chief electoral officer BDR Tiwari on Tuesday expressed appreciation to the entire election machinery for the conduct of peaceful Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Tiwari said that the conduct of the elections have been very peaceful as there was no incident of violence and no incident of re-poll in the state.
“I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the entire election machinery in the state for their tireless effort to make the entire election process a very successful one. Moreover, the way people have behaved and supported to strengthen the democracy in the state is also really appreciable,” he said while also thanking the police and paramilitary personnel for ensuring maintenance of law and order throughout the election.
He said the state had recorded 76.6 percent voter turnout of which Shillong parliamentary constituency at 73.78 per cent and Tura 81.37 per cent adding that the overall voters turnout was highest ever compared to the previous parliamentary elections in the state.
