Shillong, April 2: People visited the churches to offer their morning prayers and attend church services following with confession. Good Friday is observed to remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. Accounts in the Gospels talk about how royal soldiers, under the leadership of Christ’s disciple Judas Iscariot, arrested him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus is believed to have carried his cross to the site of execution called the “place of skull” or Golgotha.
While talking News Reporter, Father Pascal Lyngdoh, Reverence of Cathedral Church Shillong said that ” This day Jesus Christ was crucified and he rose from the dead. Jesus suffered for the sins of the whole world and that as a result of his sacrificial death, humanity was purged of their sin and their sinful nature. People come to church on this day to seek peace. He quoted from the Bible…Chapter 14, verse 27; the Bible says, “Peace I give to you, not like the world gives to you. Do not be afraid).
Extending his greetings on the eve of Good Friday, Father Pascal Lyngdoh said that Jesus is the greatest teacher of peace and love and preached humanity across the world. Irrespective of religion, Jesus become the role model for the people.
In the name of the Catholic Church, the mother of all Church, “I wish to pray for peace, joy, and love . We have to be optimistic irrespective of all problems. It is very important each religion should help in bringing peace and humanity”, he added.
However, this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, safety precautions were followed and requested the people from attending Church large gatherings. It is believed that on Good Friday Jesus suffered on the cross for the cause of humanity and to restore peace in the world.
