Meghalaya CM advocates for responsible tourism for economic and sustainable growth

Shillong, Dec 5: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has called for a balanced and responsible approach to promoting tourism in Meghalaya, emphasizing that the state’s identity, land, and people must remain protected. Speaking on Wednesday, Sangma reassured citizens that tourism poses no threat to these core values but instead serves as a pivotal driver of economic growth and development.

“Tourism is not a threat to our identity, land, and people. Rather, it is an opportunity for us to progress economically and create new avenues for growth,” Sangma asserted.

Highlighting the potential of Meghalaya’s rich cultural and natural heritage, the Chief Minister urged the public to embrace tourism’s benefits while ensuring it remains sustainable. He emphasized the need for a welcoming environment for visitors, underscoring the importance of their comfort and security.

“The way we treat our tourists, make them feel comfortable, and guarantee their safety, (it) will directly influence our state’s progress,” he stated.
