Meghalaya Congress to be part of “Bharat Jodo Yatra” from Sept 7

Shillong, Sept 5: Meghalaya Congress will join its parent body – Indian National Congress – in the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” campaign from Kanyakumari to Jammu and Kashmir, which begins on September 7.

Talking to reporters in Shillong on Monday, Bobbeeta Sharma, general secretary and senior spokesperson of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, said during the yatra there will be interaction with the people of India on the serious issues confronting the country.

The yatra, to be led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, will cover 3,500 km from Kanyakumari to Jammu and Kashmir in 150 days. It will covers 12 states and 2 union territories: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

She added that the purpose of the yatra is to connect with the people of the country so that the problems of the citizens can be heard by the Congress leaders.

She said there are four key objectives of the Yatra:
1. Creating unity amongst all like-minded Indians who stand for the values of our freedom movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, as reflected in the Constitution.
2. Raising the voices of crores of Indians against economic inequality, social division and erosion of our rights.
3. Discussing ideas and solutions which people have to solve these challenges.
4. Strengthening social harmony along the principles of ‘Unity in Diversity’ and ‘Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava’.

Yatris

Yatris: 118 Bharat Yatris have been selected from all across the country who will walk from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. In addition, Pradesh Congress Committees are shortlisting 100 Pradesh Yatris from the states through which the Yatra passes, and Atithi Yatris from all other states.

Bharat Jodo Yatra at state level: Every state through which the Yatra does not pass is organizing a door-to-door campaign to reach every person to communicate the message of the Yatra.
