Shillong, April 3: The Meghalaya government has constituted an all-party committee to discuss the proposal of establishing a Winter Capital in Tura.
The decision comes in response to demands from various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Garo Hills advocating for a Winter capital in Tura to ease administrative functioning and ensure balanced development across the state.

The committee would be headed by the Chief Minister or a Minister nominated by him. All the pollical parties of the state have been requested to depute two representatives to the committee.

As per an official notification by Chief Secretary, D.P. Wahlang, the terms of reference for the committee includes studying the feasibility of setting up a Winter Capital in Tura and evaluating its advantages and disadvantages. The committee will also seek the views of all relevant stakeholders before submitting its report to the government.
The notification further said the relevant government departments will also be invited to participate in the committee’s deliberations.
