Shillong, July 13: Kayakers and paddlers from Meghalaya have brought laurels to the state by winning five medals at the National Canoe and Kayak Championships held in at Kali River in Ganeshgudi, Aveda village, Joida taluk, Karnataka.
The event organised by the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association took place from June 19 to June 21, featured three main categories: Canoe Slalom Senior Men and Women Championship, Canoe Junior Men & Women Championship, and the Kayak Cross National Championship.
The event is being held in collaboration with the General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure (GTNAA).
Medal winners from Meghalaya include:
1. Elizabeth Vincent – Gold in Kayak Cross Senior Women
2. Pynshngain Kurbah – Silver in Kayak Cross Senior Men
3. Indra Sharma – Silver in C1 Junior Men
4. Elizabeth Vincent – Bronze in K1 Senior Women
5. Meghalaya Team – Bronze in K1 Senior Men Team Event.
Over 80-100 participants from 10 states participated in the championship.
