Shillong, May 2: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said Meghalaya should be able to touch 20 lakh visitors by the end of this year.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the department will be releasing the tourism calendar in the next two weeks or so.
“Hopefully, with a lot of attention being paid and you know just yesterday a parliamentary committee had visited Meghalaya and stayed here for last 3 days and you had celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar visited Meghalaya – so these visits by these iconic figures also help project Meghalaya as the ultimate tourist destination. Therefore, we should be able to touch 20 lakh visitors this year,” he added.

The minister informed that the department is in the process of engaging tourist buddies.
“We are in the process. We have already advertised. we will be able to immediately engage 50 tourist buddies and we will begin with the state capital. The sites will include Ward’s Lake, Golflink and Khyndailad,”he said.
