Tura, Jan 13: The U18 Boys’ Football Division matches of the 5th Meghalaya Games returned after a day’s hiatus on Saturday with East Jaintia Hills clashing with Ri Bhoi in the early morning match.
Both the teams started off on a strong note with fierce rallies and attack play. But East Jaintia Hills were a tad better to find the back of the net in the first half. Ri Bhoi fancied to bounce back in the second half as the game in balance despite a solitary goal difference.
But East Jaintia Hills came back on the field with much more fearless play and better coordination in the second half, firing in two more goals. However, Ri Bhoi was not to be undone as it also managed to find the back of net albeit only once. They tried hard but luck wasn’t in their favour.
At the end of the regulation play, the scoreline stood at 3 – 1. With this win, East Jaintia Hills have progressed to the next round since their group has only two teams, the other being Ri Bhoi.
Three more matches will be played on Saturday, mostly among the Khasi and Jaintia Hills teams with only West Garo Hills from Garo Hills featured in the day.
Saturday’s fixtures:
West Garo Hills vs South West Khasi Hills,
West Jaintia Hills vs Eastern West Khasi Hills,
East Khasi Hills vs West Khasi Hills.
