Meghalaya Games 2024 | U18 Girls’ Football: East Khasi Hills blow away South West Garo Hills with 18 goals!

Tura, Jan 14: It was a carnage at the Chandmari football ground in Tura on Sunday afternoon as the spectators were left in shock and awe of the prowess of East Khasi Hills District women’s football team as it scored not 1, 2 or 3 goals but a mind boggling 18 goals!

The team at the receiving end of this onslaught the South West Garo Hills District women’s team.

The game was part of the group stage matches of U18 Girls’ Football division of the 5th Meghalaya Games.

From the get go, East Khasi Hills completely dominated the game. Their offence, passes, technical superiority and accuracy had no defence from South West Garo Hills. It seemed, they were scoring at will.

Inrilaidor Khongtham was the pick of the players as she scored 8 goals. Ibashembha Khongsit, Makrisha Songthiang, Ideibanrishisha Kharpan and Daiaijingsuk Basaiawmoit, all contributed two goals each; followed by Philakyntiewshisha Nengnong and Cynthia Mylliemumlong, who both scored a goal each.

Khongtham said, “We were able to give our best in this match as compared to the last match. It was a teamwork, and I was able to score 9 goals. We are hopeful to get to win in the finals. I aim to be an international player and play for the country.”

With this win, East Khasi Hills have progressed to semi-finals.
