Meghalaya go down to Jammu & Kashmir in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Must read

Shillong, Oct 23: Meghalaya lost to Jammu and Kashmir by eight wickets in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 match in Jaipur on Monday.

On winning the toss, Meghalaya chose to bat first but put up a sub-par total of 107/4 in their 20 overs, which J&K chased down with exactly 5 overs to spare.

The Meghalaya innings began positively, with guest player Nakul Verma and Sylvester Mylliempdah putting on 53 for the first wicket, the highest the team has managed this season. Verma hit 37 from 47 balls and Mylliempdah 26 from 32. Lerry Sangma then came in after the latter was dismissed and added a further 24 from 25.

However, they and the other batters were not able to score at a fast enough rate, with only one – Amiangshu Sen (10 not out from 9 deliveries) – going at a strike rate of over 100.

J&K showed early on that less than a run-a-ball would not be enough and they chased down the target for the loss of only two wickets in 15 overs. The wickets were split between Kilco Marak (1/17 in 2 overs) and guest player Rajesh Bishnoi (1/28 in 4 overs).

Meghalaya will next face Haryana on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Meghalaya will take on Bengal in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. On Sunday, they lost to Tamil Nadu by 123 runs. Although Sandria Momin (2/27 in 3) and Rubi Chettri (1/17 in 3) had some success with the ball, Tamil Nadu were able to post 143/4 in their 20 overs and then demolish Meghalaya for just 20 in 13.2 overs.
