Shillong, Dec 5: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has announced that the state government is actively working on the expansion of Shillong Airport’s runway to enhance its capacity and connectivity. The initiative, which aims to facilitate direct flights from major metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, is being pursued with a “very, very aggressive and positive” approach.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s commitment to advancing the project in close collaboration with central authorities. “We are taking an aggressive and focused approach to ensure this project moves forward smoothly,” Sangma stated.
The expansion is expected to transform Meghalaya’s connectivity and development by improving access to the state and boosting economic opportunities. Highlighting the broader vision, the Chief Minister expressed optimism about the runway expansion’s potential to significantly impact the state’s infrastructure and tourism sector.
The project has been identified as a priority, with both state and central governments working in tandem to overcome challenges and accelerate progress.
