Shillong, July 10: The state Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for ensuring time bound recruitment and promotion in the different government departments.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “SOPs for time bound recruitment and promotion have been finalized by the Cabinet today to be now implemented by the different Heads of Departments (HoDs) as well as the different recruitment agencies.”
“We have been working very hard to streamline the entire personnel department and the process of recruitment and process of promotion. Therefore, today in the cabinet we have come up with a SOPs for conducting exams, declaring results, advertisements and information of vacancies to be done so that the recruitment process is done in a much faster manner. So, all the different departments will be asked now to ensure that the vacancies that are there should be intimated within a specific period of time,” he informed.
He said the MPSC, the DSCs or the department selection committees will be given specific time to fill up those vacancies, conduct the examinations and declare results.
The CM said similarly, the government has put a timeframe for the department promotion committees under which a promotion should be done as most of the time the departments start the process of promotion once the person retires and then the person who are supposed to come into their place miss out 3-5 months of their promotion because the process started a bit late.
“So in order to ensure timely promotion are given to people, who are obviously and who are supposed to get those promotion, we have figure out a process and SOP where the departments have been asked to do this entire exercise every six months and different processes to be completed way before the person retires. So that when the person does retire, the promotion and the promotee is ready to take the space so that there is no gap between the retirement of an individual and the promotee to take their space,” he added.
