Shillong, Oct 31: In recognition of his enduring dedication and contributions to the media field in Meghalaya, veteran journalist Francis A. Khongwar was honored on Thursday by the Government of Meghalaya. Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, presented Khongwar with a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh, symbolizing the state’s gratitude for his invaluable role in shaping public discourse.
This felicitation comes as part of the Meghalaya Media Meet 2024, held at Hotel Vivanta, Shillong, where eight senior journalists were celebrated for their work in strengthening journalism across the state. During the event, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma had announced a special grant of Rs. 1 lakh for each honoree, recognizing their commitment to informing and engaging the public.
Khongwar began his career in 1984 with the Khasi weekly newspaper Dongmusa and later joined the Press Trust of India (PTI) in Shillong as a Transmission Operator. His career has spanned multiple prestigious outlets, including Apphira, Nation Builder, Mawphor, and Kynjat Shai. Even today, he remains an active force in journalism, championing transparency and truth through his work.
