Shillong, March 26: The state government has decided to purchase a building worth Rs 20 crore for setting up a Meghalaya guest house in Bangalore for the purpose of providing accommodation to visitors and students from Meghalaya.

Informing this after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said the proposed building located in the city of Bangalore will accommodate at any point of time in two dorms – 50 for boys and 50 for girls.

“Bangalore being one of the most visited areas by Meghalayans and we also have quite a number of students pursuing various courses in that city,” he said.

Asked if there is any plan to construct a Meghalaya House in Bangalore, Lyngdoh said, “As of now, the immediate need is to cater to the need of the student population. A Meghalaya House is also in the pipeline but in order to address the immediate need where a number of students are finding it very difficult to find accommodation and the rates are very exorbitant but creating a Meghalaya House would need more like creation of more posts, placing of officers.”

“So in order to address the immediate need we will first created this facility of a guest house specially dedicated to visitors and student population of the state,” he added.
