SHILLONG, FEB 22: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said setting up of anti-dacoity camps have become irrelevant in the state.

Therefore, the state government has decided to create more police outposts and strengthen the manpower of the existing police stations and police outposts across the state.

An exhaustive meeting in this regard was held recently.

Replying in the Assembly, Tynsong said the government has sanctioned 140 two-wheelers and 80 Boleros for the various police stations to ensure the policing system in the state improves as much as possible.

He said in fact there was no sanction for anti-dacoity camps but they were set up depending upon the situation that arises.

“When the situation in Garo Hills was very volatile at that time the home police thought we needed to create some kind of temporary camp where we can control illegal activities including militancy,” he added.

Earlier when deputy CM stated in his reply that the matter is under examination in regards to setting up of AD camp in Mitegittim, Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin said that he accept the reply with a smiling face because he know that the government will consider especially when the deputy CM has a very good heart.

He said that Mitegittim is located in a very interior place where a weekly market would take place. However, lots of encounters took place as anti-social elements would hide in the place. “In order to prevent any incident, it is necessary to set up an AD camp there,” Momin added.
