Shillong, Dec 7: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has stated that the Health Department is proceeding cautiously with the bidding process for the 108 ambulance services, drawing lessons from past experiences. Efforts are underway to complete the process as soon as possible, she assured.

“The 108 tender is in the process of completion. Certain procedures were operationalized, and we held pre-bid discussions with the bidders,” said Lyngdoh. “Some issues raised during these pre-bid interactions have come to the department’s attention, and we are addressing these queries.”

She highlighted that suggestions for modifications in the bid documents were received from various stakeholders, adding, “The bid cannot be completed unless all those suggestions are addressed.”

Acknowledging that the process has exceeded its timeline, Lyngdoh remarked, “We are fully aware of the delay, but we cannot rush. Past experience has shown that improper selection of components can create significant problems for the state.”

Reiterating the department’s commitment to a thorough and transparent process, she said, “We are actively working to complete the tender, but every step must be acknowledged, and we must provide suitable responses to the bidders.”

The minister also emphasized that the department would not yield to external pressure, stating, “We will not be dictated by anyone, as there are technical and legal issues that must be handled with caution.”

Despite the complexities, Lyngdoh assured the public that the department is making every effort to conclude the process soon.
