Shillong, April 10: In an effort to combat stigma and promote awareness surrounding mental health, health providers and Mental Health Programme officers across Meghalaya have initiated a series of outreach programs. These programs aim to disseminate vital information and resources directly to the people, empowering communities to better understand and address mental health concerns.
In various districts across the state, targeted initiatives have been organized in East Khasi Hills; the District Mental Health Programme conducted a “Target Intervention Programme” at Mawkynrew PHC, focusing on mental health issues for Village Health Council members, Youth Ambassadors, and Field Health Workers. This program equipped key community figures with the knowledge to identify and support individuals struggling with mental health.
In East Garo Hills a Suicide Prevention Camp took place in A’dugre, emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness and providing resources for those at risk. In South West Garo Hills a community awareness program on mental health was held in Dingjor, extending the reach of mental health education across the state.
The message from Meghalaya’s Mental Health Programme is clear: help is available. Individuals struggling with mental health concerns are urged to seek support, as experts are ready to listen, help, and provide guidance. For those in need, a toll-free helpline (14410, option 2) is available from Monday to Saturday, from 10 AM to 7PM.
This initiative reflects Meghalaya’s strong commitment to promoting mental well-being within its communities. By offering accessible resources and education, the state is actively working towards creating a more supportive and understanding environment for all its residents.
