Shillong, Jan 15: The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the amended Meghalaya School Service Rules 2025, designed to provide enhanced promotion opportunities for Lower Primary (LP) school teachers. Under the revised rules, LP teachers will now be eligible for promotions, allowing them to retire at the rank of “Senior Teacher.”
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “The approval of the Meghalaya School Service Rules 2025 addresses a critical gap in the previous service rules, which offered limited scope for promotion for LP school teachers and assistant teachers. Many teachers were stuck in the same position for years, leading to discontent and conflicts within the Education Department.”
The Chief Minister highlighted that the amendments were finalized after extensive consultations with various teacher associations. “These changes will ensure career growth for government LP school teachers and resolve longstanding grievances, paving the way for a more motivated teaching workforce,” he added.
