Guwahati, Dec 30: As part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in the region, Assam police have arrested 2 people and seized significant quantities of illegal drugs including heroin, yaba tablets and Tramadol capsules. These drugs had come from neighbouring Meghalaya.
The arrests and seizures were made in two separate operations in South Salmara – Mankachar district on Sunday.
In the first operation, based on a tip-off that illegal peddling of heroin was going on in Jordanga Part-2 area, an anti narcotics ops was launched by a team under supervision of Addl. SP Hq SSM and led by OC Mankachar PS, SI Sonu Dev Barman, SI Nayan Jyoti Gogoi and staff of Mankachar PS.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Nur Amin of Mankachar and seizure of 13 grams of heroin packed in one maroon coloured soap case and a smartphone.
Police said Amin was apprehended red handed while trying to sell the heroin and while he tried to run away from police. He has been taken into police custody for further enquiry in connection with the case.
Police also mentioned that the seizure procedure and preparation of seizure list has been done under videography in presence of independent witnesses.
Filing of FIR and legal formalities are also underway.
In the second operation, an anti narcotics operation was carried out by a team led by Addl. SP (Hq) South Salmara-Mankachar along with SI Jayanta Rajkhowa, SI Kaushik Dutta and staff of South Salmara PS on Sunday night in Boro Sadamari area.
In the operation, one Abdul Motleb Bepari of South Salmara, aged 27 years, was apprehended and a massive quantity of illegal drugs seized from his house.
56 Yaba tablets weighing 6 grams, 1680 Tramadol Capsules Brand name SPSPHEN+ packed in 70 strips each strip containing 24 nos capsules, weighing 1454 grams and a smart mobile phone were recovered from his possession.
Police said Abdul was caught red handed while he was trying to sell the tablets and that his house was also a consumption place of the tablets.
Police said preliminary enquiry suggests the tablets were brought from neighbouring state of Meghalaya.
He has been taken into police custody for further enquiry in connection in the case. Filing of FIR and legal formalities are also underway.
Police added that seizure procedure and preparation of seizure list was done under videography in presence of independent witnesses.
