Meghalaya police to arrest clients along with sex workers henceforth
Shillong, July 7: Meghalaya Police have detained sex workers along with their clients after receiving complaints from residents of Shillong city about flesh trade along the Barik – Dhankheti road. However, this will not be a one of case as the police have decided to arrest clients along with sex workers, henceforth.
The arrests were made on the night of July 02, whereby three sex workers along with their clients were apprehended.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger on Wednesday said a raid was conducted by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of East Khasi Hills where 3 sex workers along with 3 clients were apprehended on July 02 at about 11 PM based on complaints from public about sex workers operating in the Barik-Dhankheti road and many people were seen coming in vehicles as clients.
In this connection, a case has been registered vide Laitumkhrah Police Station Case No. 99 (07)2021 U/S 7(l)(b) Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and legal action taken up.
To prevent this sort of activity in the area, the SP warned that henceforth, apart from booking sex workers, clients apprehended in the area will also face legal action under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Meghalaya Police Act.
