Meghalaya police cautions against honeytrap racket

Shillong, May 28: Meghalaya police has cautioned the public to be wary of a group of criminals that honeytrap their victims and demand money by blackmailing them by using their explicit videos.

In a press statement here on Friday, the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills district, S. Nontnger said the police have received complaints regarding female fraudsters who send friend requests on various social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram and ask the male victim to share their Whatsapp number.

“On getting the phone number, the fraudsters seduce the victim for a video call and entice them to get them involved into sexual activity. The fraudsters meanwhile record all these activities and later blackmail the victim by asking payment from them,” he said.

He cautioned the public to not fall prey into this scam played by the fraudsters and to be wary of friend requests from strangers.
