Meghalaya police inducts women commandos of SF10 under ‘Meghashakti’

Shillong, Jan 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma formally announced the induction of Meghashakti, the Women Commando Warriors of SF10, into the Meghalaya Police in the presence of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, DGP LR Bishnoi, Chief Secretary and others on Saturday.

Sangma described it as a momentous day in the history of Meghalaya Police, remarking that what better year than the state’s Golden Jubilee to have the State’s first female Commando Warriors of the SF10.

He also praised the DGP and all other officials who played a major part in establishing and ensuring the state’s first female Commando Warriors.

“Most importantly I congratulate the Meghashakti; I can only imagine the kind of training that you must have gone through and I’m sure each of you have been able to perform exceptionally well in those training programmes, as we can see the kind of quality, discipline and synchronisation and all other activities you have performed today. I can tell that you are second to no one,” the Chief Minister said.

Meghalaya police, according to Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, have come a long way in the last 50 years. He asserted that the police have demonstrated their devotion and competence to cope with any issue that may emerge in the state.

He further expressed that the induction of women commandos marks an important day for the state police. Stating that policing nowadays is a very dynamic and difficult task, he said every motion and action is being tracked. “We live in a world where nothing can be hidden,” Rymbui said.

He also praised the women commandos for taking up the duty, saying that they will set an example for women in the state as a whole.
