Meghalaya police suspend Laban Sub Inspector for allegedly being ‘drunk on duty’

Shillong, Sept 11: Meghalaya Police have suspended a Sub Inspector (SI) of the Laban Police station in Shillong for alleged misconduct and initiated a departmental action against him.

Informing about the departmental inquiry, East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtnger, on Tuesday termed the incident as unfortunate. “We have taken prompt action against the SI R Marwein. He has been suspended,” he informed.

He also warned that East Khasi Hills police will not tolerate indiscipline. “We always reward police officers for their good deeds and we will also take stern action against their misdeeds and misconduct,” the SP stated.

On September 9, a woman reported an assault by a taxi driver at Laban police station. Concerns were raised about the conduct of the officer on night duty, alleged to be under the influence of alcohol, leading to a dispute. The women police station promptly assisted the victim and a case was registered based on her FIR.
