Shillong, June 9: Meghalaya police has urged the netizens of the State to refrain from posting, commenting and circulating information disclosing the identity or blaming and shaming victims of crime against women and children.
In a statement on Wednesday, Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Gabriel K Iangrai warned that stringent action as per relevant sections of law will be taken against any person or group admins found violating the law.
It has been observed that many social media users have been circulating photographs/videos, blaming & shaming the victims of crime against women and children.

He said it has been observed that many social media users have been posting, commenting, circulating and uploading photographs or videos, denigrating, blaming and shaming the victims of crime against women and children.
Several social media groups including WhatsApp groups have also been actively engaging in circulating information about the victims which is tantamount to violation of law.
