Meghalaya Shocker! Class 6 student forced to wear shoe garland for failing to speak in English, probe ordered

Shillong, August 3: In a shocking incident, a student of class six in Meghalaya was “punished” and forced to wear dirty shoes around his neck for not speaking English inside the school premises.

Also, the boy was  paraded with dirty shoes around his neck in front of the headmaster, school teachers, and fellow students.

Following the incident, the parents of the child lodged a complaint with the police. They also claimed that the school exposed their child to extreme punishments which were “disturbing” and “unlawful.”

The FIR also exposed several other similar inhumane punishments inflicted on students, including licking unclean dustbins, beating the students, forcefully cutting their hair, and personal insults, amongst other degrading acts.

The incident has sparked outrage among parents and locals, who are demanding strict action against the school authorities.

Also, reacting to the incident, State minister for education, Rakkam A. Sangma, has sought a report on it from the Deputy Commissioner of the concerned district and the education department.

Sangma called the incident “unfortunate,” and said that he would examine the matter after getting a report from the District Magistrate.
