SHILLONG, JAN 8: Minister in-charge Sports and Youth Affairs Shakliar Warjri on Wednesday said the state government has recently submitted a proposal to the central government for hosting the 39th National Games in 2027.
Speaking to media persons, Warjri said, “Recently I have met the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports on the 20 of December 2024 in Delhi where I have officially submitted a proposal to host the 39th National Games here in our beautiful state of Meghalaya.”
Warjri informed that he also held discussions with the department and he was informed that if given the chance to hold the National Games, the state government is well capable to host.
On preparation, Warjri said “Yes of course we are prepared but nonetheless there are a lot of preparations that need to be done and of course, we as a government are working hard to ensure that the National Games that we will be hosting in Meghalaya will be a success.
The minister informed that in terms of infrastructure, many infrastructures are coming up across all districts in the state. “So I am positive that given the chance we will be able to host the National Games” he added.
In regards to the up-coming Meghalaya Games 2025, the minister in-charge said that the opening ceremony will be on the 20 January and all the preparations are on-going and everything is positive.
“All the disciplines will be within West Jaintia Hills district except for 1-2 disciplines including golf and swimming which will be held in Shillong” said Warjri.
