Shillong, March 24: Deputy Chief Minister incharge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Monday informed that state government will soon come up with a notification to impose speed limits for different roads for the purpose of safeguarding lives, minimizing accidents and create a safer environment for all road users.

Addressing media persons, Dhar said he has chaired a meeting on road safety with all line departments. He said, “We are working on that and within two-three months, we will be able to come up with a notification on speed limits for different roads – town, city and highways.”

“We also requested the police to make sure over speeding is restricted,” he added.

The deputy chief minister also informed that all concerned departments have been asked to take all measures to prevent accidents in identified locations.

“There are locations where accidents frequently happened and we have directed that corrective measures should be there to ensure less accidents in the future,” he stated.
