Shillong, Dec 14: Meghalaya is all set to witness the completion of major sports infrastructures, constructed as part of the preparation for National Games, in the next twelve months.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said preparation for the National Games is on track. “We are on track because our stadiums are under preparation and you will see in a matter of next six months to about twelve months’ time, you will see major change in the overall infrastructure, major projects be completed in the next 12 months’ time,” he said.
The CM further informed that the government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful conduct of the Meghalaya Games.
“I had a recent review in Tura for the Meghalaya Games. Sports minister and other officials were all present out there and the preparations are on track whether it is the stage or the different logistical requirements, we have discussed in detail and all are under preparation and should be ready in time for the games,” he said.
Sangma, however, said that Tura will have a big challenge of hosting over 4,000 people.
“Hence, we are looking for support from the community, schools, colleges where we are investing in the infrastructure to accommodate the people so that they can stay there and once the games are over those infrastructures will go to their respective organization. It is a win-win situation for everyone. We expect the games to go well but we are not going to leave any stone unturned so we will do whatever it takes to make the games successful,” he added.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also informed that the government will soon sanction funds for construction of many stadiums across the state.
“We have already shortlisted close to about 40 such infrastructure throughout the state for which the work will start very soon,” he said.
